The government will pay Rs 2 per kg of cow-buffalo dung, the scheme is beneficial for the pastoralists
In Chhattisgarh, the Bhupesh Baghel cabinet has approved the purchase of dung at Rs 2 per kg. It was approved to increase the purchase rate of cow dung including transport cost of Rs. 2 per kg. There was a plan to create such a dung bank in Gujarat but it is not as successful as it should be. Enough of biogas runs that plan. Now the plan is in Chhattisgarh. Name has been changed. The Rupani government had in March announced a subsidy of Rs 900 per cow per year. It will be turned on later.
The 'Godhan Nyay Yojana' will be launched from Hareli Utsav to make Narwa, Garuwa, Ghuruwa and Bari employment oriented villages. 5300 herds have been sanctioned, out of which 2,400 have been constructed in rural areas and 377 in urban areas from where the scheme will be launched. Organic farming will be done by the organization. The village will buy cow dung from the pastoralists. Vermi manure is sold to farmers by cooperatives at a rate of Rs. 8 per kg on priority basis.
The plan is unlikely to succeed
One animal gets 10 to 15 kg of manure per day. Out of 1 crore cattle in Chhattisgarh, 10-15 crore kg of manure can be obtained daily. So the government has to give Rs 20 to 30 crore every day. Thus, there are many doubts about the success of the scheme.
