RO will not be sold in these cities of the country from 2021, NGT gave an important order to the government
From next year, the sale of ROs will be completely banned in many cities and villages of the country where the amount of TDS is less than 500 mg. However, its use will only continue in cities with higher TDS. The National Green Authority (NGT) has asked the Ministry of Environment and Forests to implement the RO by the end of this year. Has directed the issuance of a notification to ban purifiers.
Late compliance with the order is harming people's health and the environment
The ministry had informed a bench headed by NGT Chief Justice Adarsh Kumar Goyal that the exercise could not be completed due to the corona virus epidemic. The Authority then gave the Ministry more time. Even after a year, the environment and forest ministry has asked for more time based on the lockdown, the bench said. The required procedures will now be completed by December 31, 2020. The NGT had earlier said that delays in complying with its order were harming people's health and the environment. The order must be obeyed quickly. The ministry had sought four months in January to implement the NGT order.
Inform people about the side effects of minerals
At the last hearing, NGT criticized the ministry for the delay in issuing the notification and warned the concerned officer to withhold his salary. The authority had earlier said that its order was based on the report of a committee of experts including representatives of the Ministry of Environment and Forests and that it was appropriate to impose disciplinary action without the permission of any other authority. In an effort to regularize the use of RO (reverse osmosis) purifiers, the NGTA ordered the government to ban the use of purifiers where the TDS is less than 500 mg per liter of water and sensitize the public about the side effects of mineral deficiency.

It is best if the TDS is less than 300 mg per liter of water
According to a World Health Organization study, if TDS is less than 300 milligrams per liter of water, it is considered the best, while if it is more than 900 milligrams per liter, it is considered bad. The expert committee said the RO system is not useful if the TDS is less than 500 milligrams per liter, but carries water that removes important minerals from the water. This was later ordered by the NGT.
