On July 20, the Modi government may implement the Consumer Protection Act-2019, for the first time
The Consumer Protection Act-2019 is going to be implemented across the country soon. According to sources in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, the act could take effect on July 20, 2020 or anytime next week. The new law will replace the Consumer Protection Act 1986,
The Modi government has made many changes in the Act. Consumer and Food Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said in recent days, "The rules of the Consumer Protection Act 2019 have been drafted. Under PM Modi's direction, a law has been enacted which will not require any other law in the country for the next 50 years.
How effective will the new Consumer Protection Act-2019 be?
It should be noted that the new law was supposed to be implemented in January, but, for some reason, could not be implemented. The date was later extended to March, the Corona outbreak in the country began in March and then a lockdown was imposed. This law could not be enforced, now that this law has been enacted, immediate action can be taken on consumer complaints, especially now that ignoring consumer rights in online business can be a burden to e-commerce companies.
Misleading advertisements can also be prosecuted
Under the new law, misleading advertisements to consumers will also be dealt with, consumer disputes will be resolved in a timely, effective and speedy manner once the new consumer laws come into force. Under the new law, a Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) will be set up in addition to consumer courts. The authority has been set up to strictly protect the rights of consumers. Under the new law, consumers can complain about their quality to the CCPA even before making any similar purchase.

After the Consumer Protection Act 2019 comes into force, the consumer can file a case in any consumer court. There was no such provision in the previous Consumer Protection Act 1986. This means that any citizen of the country who buys the same from wherever he likes and if he wants to complain to the consumer court in any corner of the country can complain, he gets the right under this new law. No such facility or right was given in the previous Consumer Protection Act. Complaints had to be made only where the same was purchased.
